What is the Recurrent Price Index?

Heading

The Recurrent Price Index is a fixed set of EVs that Recurrent "bundles" to look at price trends over time. Like the Consumer Price Index, tracked by the US Department of Labor, we use a bundle of cars to provide market representation and consistency over time. We select vehicles that are well stocked in each model year, and update the included models at the end of Q1 each year. This helps us avoid temporary or intermittent changed in prices due to an influx of new model years, one-off inventory spikes, or other temporary market disruptions.

As of Q4 2024, the Recurrent Price Index includes:

  • 2018 Chevrolet Volt
  • 2019 Prius Prime
  • 2019 Tesla Model 3
  • 2020 Bolt EV
  • 2020 Tesla Model Y
  • 2021 Pacifica Hybrid
  • 2021 VW ID4
  • 2022 Nissan LEAF
  • 2022 Mustang Mach-E

When we switch up cars in the bundle, we make sure the monthly percentage price changes remain consistent and that there is continuity in metrics.

Recurrent has been tracking used EV prices since April 2021.
